In APLNG 493: Methods for Teaching ESL, I had a team teaching experience, my first classroom teaching experience (also see Goal 2, Artifact 5).  The four of us collaborated to come up with a lesson plan and teaching materials.  The subject, nominalization, was given to us by the class' real teacher.

Artifact 20 is our rough lesson plan and Artifact 21 is the powerpoint we used to teach the class that day.  It was not hard working with this group, everyone was cooperative and had similar thoughts and goals.  The hardest part about working as a group was finding time we could all meet together with our busy schedules!  The best part about working as a group was having the support.  Teaching for the first time was not as scary with three other people who had never done it before.  They backed me up when I needed it and helped me answer a student's question.  Overall, it was a great experience and I like to incorporate similar group work in my own classrooms.

In APLNG 586: Analyzing Classroom Discourse, I worked with a team of two other students on some major projects throughout the semester.

Artifact 22 is the powerpoint we used to present the first project we did together.  We researched a software called Transana used for transcribing in CA style.  This software was very confusing for me, so I was grateful to have teammates who knew more than I did.  I contributed by creating the powerpoint and getting down the basics of the website and the company, where my teammates experimented with the software and evaluated it for CA use.  It was great teamwork and I learned so much more from them than I would have learned on my own!

Artifact 23 is our final paper and Artifact 24 is the powerpoint we used to present our final paper.  These were very tough assignments, so, again, I was grateful to have more experienced teammates who I could go to with any questions.  This was a big research project that I cannot imagine anyone doing single-handedly in one semester, so it was amazing to see the final outcome!  Every one of us did a lot work for this project and together we created something more extensive than we could have alone and in a shorter period of time.  Before this class, I never would have thought I could have written anything like a scholarly journal, but with a team, I was able to have that experience.  This experience will be very beneficial for any writing I may do in the future, as well as any future teams I may contribute to.
